Imagine! You live in a world where the Hero is victorious and loved by all. A world where peace and harmony reign over the land …
Wouldn’t it be truly amazing!
But, sadly we don’t. We live in a complicated, hectic, crazy world that, however wonderful, is not that nice to be in sometimes. And, one where I, as I suspect many of you, would like to escape from every now and then.
Back to the innocence and curiosity of our childhood stories. (Actually, I live there quite a lot, hehe!)
My name is Deborah Jackson and I create quirky characters who, in these oft dark times, remind us of the magic, curiosity and beauty in our lives. A world where the hero is victorious and harmony reigns over the whole land. Their big eyes and big hearts capture happy memories and fuzzy familiar feelings of times when we were children. I love living in the innocence of these childhood stories and I think that maybe you do too.
I have such big hopes and dreams for us all and I try to instil an element of these wishes into everything I do and everything I imagine and create. I want you to remember the good in this world and that dreaming is still a possibility.
Let me tell you a story. Grab a cuppa. Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin…
“Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in a fantastic, fairy-tale world where anything and everything was possible. Everyday she looked forward to a new adventure in her Magical Fairytale Land. She would spend hours and hours by the river dangling her feet in the water, writing stories and sketching out funny little friends who would lead her to amazing faraway lands. She was so happy!
But, one day the villain of this tale told her there were to be no more stories and no more funny little friends and her days by the river were over. She had to leave her sketchbook friends locked away in the Magical Fairytale Land. She had to grow up! Oh no, what was she to do??
She decided she would like to help other little girls and boys discover the fairy-tale in their lives and so she became a Primary School Teacher. She spent her days being able to help children discover the magic and wonder in stories and so many other things too. She found her Prince Charming and had two beautiful children of her own.
After some time had passed, she heard a faint knocking coming from the locked door to the Magical Fairytale Land. With trepidation, she opened the door and found her wonderful magical little friends waiting for her, right where she had left them all those years ago. She once again began painting by the river and her flabber was well and truly ghasted when people told her they also loved her funny little sketchbook friends and wanted to adopt some for themselves.
The little girl (who is not now so little) still has her amazing Prince Charming and two beautiful children.
And, in this world that is unpredictable, ever-changing, scary and incredible has also found new friendships, hope, and magic through painting her funny little friends.”
Biography
Deborah is a full-time artist living in Manchester in the UK, with her family and a house full of animals and love.
Her influences come from the surreal, magical and fairy-tale worlds she has loved since childhood and developed through her time as a Primary School Teacher.
She creates a world where the impossible can happen – imagine animals can talk and big-eyed girls can join them for unimaginable adventures. Her ideal day would include family, pencils, storybooks, copious cups of tea and snuggles with her bunnies. She works mainly in graphite, pencil and oils but is equally at home behind a sewing machine creating fabric art pieces with her curious creations.
Shown and collected nationally and internationally, Deborah loves to create funny little friends for children of all ages.
